Highlights from 2009

Nearly 500 runners participated in the 2009 Red Ribbon Run. They enjoyed a beautiful fall morning as they tackled the 1 Mile Fun Run and the 5K race down Riverside Drive.

The school with the largest percentage participation received the "RRRight Track" Traveling Trophy to host for a year in their school. The honor went to Eisenhower International School, though Carnegie Elementary and Zarrow International School were close runner's up.

Many thanks to all the runners, parents, teachers and students who took part in the race this year. Congratulations to all our winners.

Special thanks to River Parks, the Tulsa Police Department and Glen's Road Race Service.

The run is Tulsa's biggest event for Red Ribbon Week. The Red Ribbon Campaign is now the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week.

Operation Aware is a local non-profit focused on providing prevention education to equip youth with the knowledge and skills to make positive life choices.

Red Ribbon Week

The Red Ribbon Campaign is now the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week.

The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent, in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs.  The National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth joined the DEA to create a red ribbon campaign in schools to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use.
